Ok so im building a pc very soon for a friend and im alsmot done buying all the parts. he said he wanted a cpu capable of at least 2.4 Ghz because thats what half life 2 recommends. well i had already bought an Amd 2500+ barton cpu so im just going to over clock that one. i have a spare pc2700(sisoftsnadra calls it pc 2100??) 512 mb of ram so i was going to just buy another 512 and we could have a gig. now im thinking crap if im going to be overclocking i will need pc 3200 ? Do i need all pc 3200 or could it be a mix lol. i found this one on the net and they say it is Pc3200 but when you look at the picture it sais Pc2700??? http://cgi.ebay.ca/BRAND-NEW-1GB-PC...799974979QQcategoryZ74942QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
why dont you build an amd 64 system, eg amd 64 3000+ or 3200+ they may only be 2.2ghz but there as fast as a 3ghz pentium 4! it says on the larger image Picture is for reference only - actual item will be PC3200 400 Mhz
hmmm ok quick there is only 15 minuits before i have to out bid the dude on the athlon 2500. will an amd 64 work with an Asus A7V8X-X???
i am not sure, i need to know the specs of the motherboard, athlon 64's either come in skt 754 or 939 754 is a budget socket, and 939 is the skt you will need if the computer will be upgraded in sometime.
That 2500 Barton will be fine without an overclock since its rated at an equivelent 2.5GHz. You need it to be the same RAM speed or the faster speed will only be able to go as fast as the slower one.
ok good because i won the 2500. you say that the 2500 is rated at 2.5 Ghz . i have that same cpu and im only running at 1.83?? maybe you can help me out
The AMD rating system for Socket A Athlons is based on what the clock speed would need to be for the original Socket A core, the Thunderbird, to match up. AMD is also working under the idea of more work per clock cycle. The clock speed of 1.83GHz is correct for the Athlon XP 2500+ and will run HL2 just fine. That or everyone online with one is a complete liar.
Probably because you have a stock cooler. I've got a generic but better than stock one and my T/Bred B (Barton with half cache) 2700 hits 50-53 during load or gaming.
The guys around here like the Arctic Freezer lines, but you also might want to look at the Thermaltake SilentBoost K7 or see what you can come up with from Thermalright.
w00t! Arctic Freezer....damn i love that thing....its lovely, cool and quiet....what more could you want?!
