I've just purchased a wireless router

    eBay.co.uk: WL115 Air-Link+ High speed Wireless Router (item 300081076220 end time 14-Feb-07 11:14:17 GMT)

I'm completely stumped on setting it up. Ideally, I want to wireless network my Linux PC upstairs with my laptop, which I mainly use in my downstairs lounge.

I tried to set the wireless router up on the laptop and thought I had succeeded - a message popped up saying that the 'wireless connection' was connected. I tried to surf the internet, but each site I tried gave out errors that there was no internet connection??

I normally connect to the internet with a wired router, from which, I run a CAT 5 cable from my network card on my main PC to the said router.

With a wireless router, do I have to run a CAT 5 cable from the network card to the wireless router - then maybe the laptop's 802.11b/g wireless LAN card will pick up on signals coming from the wireless router, thus being able to connect to the internet?

Basically, I'm clueless about getting the wireless router to work on either the main PC or the laptop. If someone could guide me through the basics - and I do mean the 'basics' I would be greatful.

    Cheers,

    David.

    well good luck

this much i do know, just replace your wired router with your wireless router (all the same connections)

    me too with wireless

a router is a router (weather it is wireless or not) just connect it to your desktop system exactly as you did with old router, then your desktop system can access the net

then comes the bit i don't know, setting up the wireless part
