    Intel Pentium D920 2.8GHZ 4MB Cache - SKT775 with a
    ASUS SKT-775 P5VDC-MX S/V/L M-ATX 800FSB mobo

    or

    AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4600+ 1MB cache SKT-AM2 with a
    FOXCONN K8M890M2MA-RS2H SKT-AM2 mobo

Both being dual core, which one would you recommend for gaming, or just intense use ??.

    The AMD.

(If it was a Core 2 DUO CPU it would be the Intel - the one listed is a Pentium 4 which is whooped by the AMD)

I recented went from a Pentium to an AMD-based system, and there's no going back. AMD is pretty damn good, in my opinion.

(though my Pentium was only P4 1.9 Ghz ;) )

The Pentium D's got whipped by their Athlon 64 counterparts quite easily. The new Core 2 chips change the game drastically, but between the two choices you have listed, AMD all the way.
