I'm buying a new PC soon from newegg and assembling it myself. With a combo deal, I could get a higher priced motherboard at the exact same "A la carte" price.... however, I'm uncertain of which board I want as I don't know what the difference is... If anybody can help me out it'd be really appreciated. MSI Z68A-DG65 (G3) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130611 vs MSI Z68A-DG80 (B3) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130597 It seems as if a higher number such as a DG80 would be superior to the 65, especially considering the pricetag is higher. I did notice that the DG65 offers PCIE 3.0 ports, and "MORE" SATA 6.0 ports.... but this is contrary to my belief that the DG80 should be superior. Please let me know what you guys think, and also feel free to offer advice on what motherboard you'd go with... I haven't bought the PC yet, but it will be strictly a gaming rig. I'm planning on going with: i5-2500K processor a 580GTX GPU 8 GBs of DDR3 1600 Sniper series ram 1100W Gold Cert power supply (for future SLI when the 580 price drops) (Possibly a SSD in the future when the bugs get worked out) and a "PRE" thanks for the advice
Hi, A lot of the boards' stats seem very similar. The big difference I can see is the cheaper board only has 2 pcie 3.0 slots where the more expensive board has 3 pcie 2.0 slots so if you wanted to do a tri SLI or cross fire setup, maybe lean towards that one. Also, it sounds like this one has been out a bit longer so there are probably more driver fixes etc out for it. The other board is nice too though, and if you think you want to keep this new board for a few years, it would be all set for when PCIe 3.o cards come out so you wouldnt have to buy a new board when that happens. Since I know that Ill probably never do a tri setup, I might go for the cheaper of the 2 as that one is ready for future pcie cards and most of the other specs seem to be almost identical.
