Hi guys, apparently something is wrong with my motherboard and the price is set at $375 to fix it. But a friend of mine tells me that he can make a completely new computer for cheaper than that. But my question for you is: What parts of my old computer might still be usable after the motherboard failed? Could I use the same hard drive? Or same RAM sticks? Or would it depend on the type of failure, and if it would, how could I find out if they still work? I'd appreciate any input on the subject.

well it would help to see the specs of the build to see what the hardware is. But even if the mobo dies it would not take anything with it. HDD is fine, ram, psu, cpu, ect should all be fine (unless the mobo failed because the psu failed, or you had a large voltage spike, that might have taken other things with it)

Anyway, re using an os for a new build can sometime be a pain because the os has conflicts with the new hardware, so it is usually better to just format the drive and re-install.
