I need one issue to be solved. I found several mobile processors for NP9261 notebook on www.sagernotebook.com. They have such processors available: 1. Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 - 2.66GHz. 2. Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 - 3.0GHz. 3. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - 2.40GHz. 4. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 - 2.66GHz. 5. Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 - 2.93GHz. What is interesting, is that X6800 is the most expencive! What's wrong, isn't Q6700 is the one with four processing cores? It must be the most powerful I guess if it's so. As far as I know X6800 is two cores. Need help on choosing the most powerful one! Big B, help!
i have a e6850 and its essentially one of the really high end x6800's except without unlocked multipliers(for overclocking) and less cache the quad cores are cheaper because they run at slower clock speed (there is a high end quad core that is about the same price as the x6800)
Quad cores can be faster than dual core processors only IF programs are designed for multithreading. As you can see in some tests that Higher clock speed dual core CPUs are faster than quad core CPUs which have lower clock speed. Nowadays Dual core is useful in many ways as it can help to speed up the work with several programs at the same time. But what about quad core? Well, i must tell you, there are not many programs that can FULLY support multithreading (there are not many programs which even support multithreading) and i guess there won't be such programs for a long time. That's why FPS in games depend only on higher clock speed. In maths / counting tests you can see greater advantage of Quad core CPUs. But you can see some improvements made in games as they started supporting multithreading (for example - upcomming UT2007 will support multithreading).
