I am on a tight budget in buying a grahpics card and have narrowed it down to 2 cards. Which should I get? I play alot of massively multiplayered online games. http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=14-102-326&DEPA=1 or http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=14-131-262&DEPA=0
Go with the 9600XT. I play MMORPG's as well, the 9600XT has so far played any MMORPG on high with no video lag -KalOnline -ROSEOnline -MapleStory -AnarchyOnline -MatrixOnline -StarWars Galaxy *results may vary according to other system specs
I'm running that exact same Sapphire card in my main box and it works very well. For the little extra $$, I'd get the XT over the Pro.
You play StarWars Galaxies on your system AMD Athlon with a 9600XT at full spec? - highly unlikely without lag. I have two friends who play SWG and it lags like a bad boy, and they have Pentium 4 3.0GHz / 1GB Memory / FX5800 128MB's
Because the price is very similar get the XT like everyone says. It's about 10% faster than the pro in many cases. However Roswell makes a Radeon Pro (256mb) that goes for about $80-$90 if you want to concider that.
Shoot, sorry that was the regular 9600, not the pro. You could consider the GeForce 5750 though? http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=property&DEPA=1
NO! don't get a 5750 Nvidia! Pretty much every single card in Nvidias 5000 Range is either buggy, or low in performance compared to ATI's model. (except the 5900 - which is a good card). Personally if your going to get a 9600XT - spend the extra $15 and get a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB - 8 Pipelines instead of 4 Get THAT!
I apologize, I should have said the 5700 Ultra (basically the same card, but AGP 8x). And I actually found that the performance is very similar between the 9600XT and 5700 Ultra (the Ultra even takes the lead from time to time). http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/VGA/Inno3D_FX570 But ProcalX is right, if you don't mind spending the extra cash the 9700 will serve you well. 9800 SE's are cheap too and if you're lucky you can softmod them into a 9800 Pro but I assume you don't want to take the chance.
not full specs, just high. I have shadows and some other stuff turned off. I only get some video lag when running past groups of people 20+
