Why does my computer refuse to hybernate??

Why does my PC only sometimes go on standby and then hibernate? Often, it does neither. It just stays fully powered on.

I have it very clearly set in my Power Options Properties window that "system standby:" after 15 mins ... "system hibernate:" after 25 mins. What about this could possibly be unclear to WinXP?

Do you guys know what I'm talking about? I'm sure other people experience this, too. Because the same thing happens on my laptop. As far as I can tell, it is some combination of programs that determines this. Perhaps it has to do with internet connection. If I have browser(s) open, and somehow it makes it seem like I'm doing something, maybe there are ads loading/resetting on the page or something (?? just guessing), then windows thinks that there's activity...

Anyone have a complete explanation for this? Any solutions?

    Thanks a lot
