ok u may or may not know that reccently i had to replace my motherboard, i did an exact swap.
Last nite everything worked great and as i expected for several hours after i did the swap, including several restarts.

This morning i am suddenly getting crashes due to the graphics card being unable to draw things. In some cases i stop gettings output to the monitor. But when i reset everything comes on and i get to windows, and then the same thing happens again.

I managed to install the latet drivers to no avail.

I could understand the problems more if i hadnt had the several hours of no problems last nite.

Is this software problems or Hardware. ive contacted Hercules for help but i thought id see wot u guys thought as well.
 
i can get the system stable by turing the display settings down to the minimum hardware acceleration. so if the problem is driver related i can do something about it
 
Sometimes the hardware acceleration causes problems for people. Watch it and see. Could be a driver problem, but you don't know for sure.
I had some wierd problems with the last system I built regarding offline files. Eventually I got a BSOD citing a driver for the IDE RAID controller I was using and getting a different driver helped.

You also may wanna check the error logs in the Administrative Tools in Control Panel and see if anything is pointing to the video card and keep an eye on it. Some error logs you'll be surprised at as you've not notice any problems with, so don't get scared. Keep an eye out for something that could relate to your problem (not all of them will).
 
the errors are to do with the graphics card failing to draw certain things. THis is the error that xp cites when i reboot.

thinking that the error must be either a virus or some kind of driver error i wiped the HD amd started again. However i still get the same errror when trying to enter games.

i am going to try a differrnt graphics card in my system and my card in another system to determine if the errror is software or hardware. (althought it sounds like software i just dont see how im still gettings it after wiping the HD)
 
If you were using the same drivers as before with problems, that can explain a lot. If not, then it could be something else.
 
im using the drivers that ive had no problems with.

i thought i could be some kind of clash between the sound card that i installed because i reinstalled those when i wiped the HD with the graphics card. so i uninstalled the sound drivers. but no luck yet.

gotta do more tests
 
Hmmm...The Live! cards have been known to cause people problems before, but I'm not sure if they involved anything after the uninstall of the Creative drivers.
 
it aint that cos ive tried reseating it. Besides it strted doing that when i hadnt gone inside the machine at all. ie it booted up the i restarted and it started doing that.
So im trying to contact Hercules to try and get a replacemnt (as it has a three year parts and replacement warranty)
I think i will also take back the new motherboard to PC world since the onboard sound didnt work. Then i think i will get a differnet one, maybe from Asus or Gigabyte.
 
I don't know either, but anymore, AGP cards run at 1.5 volts to be in compliance with all AGP slots. That's obviously not enough as it requires that extra power dongle that you need to hook up to the power supply.
 
aha turns out that the graphics card is fine (or at least i seems to be anyway) i tried it in another system and it worked, although i wasnt able to succesfully instal the drivers. but that s probably due to the fact tha i cudnt remove the drivers for the card that was in before it.
So it must have been the motherboard that was the problem, and i have gotten a refund on it.
So i need to choose anew motherboard (NOT from Epox).

Can u suggest a board which will match all my specs?
 
The Asus P4B (no 266,533, etc) should be a good choice. IME and from the tech I've talked to, Epox is basically shit in the quality department.

Any 845 SDRAM board from the following companies: Abit, Iwill, MSI. Good companies, and the SDRAM boards shouldn't be too much (under $100 USD for a brand new one). I would advise steering away from FIC and ECS though, as I've not been really pleased with their lack of quality either.

I'm not sure what board you're looking at. The ones displayed are all DDR boards, which is fine, but if ya don't wanna buy new RAM, you'll have to look at something else.

Nothing real special, but it's using an Intel chipset and is an Asus board. You'll have to work real hard to get an Intel chipset board to crap out on ya.
