    Hello all,

This is my first post here so bear with me on this.

I have an MSI U123 netbook that i bought in 2010, the hard drive is making a noise when under load like its off balance. I know some things about comupters but not the technical jargen aspect. I have taken a desk top apart and put it back together as well up replaced a power supply before.

So, back to the reason why i'm posting this. I have this hard drive, i'll just post a link to make it easier. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822116160

My curren hard drive is this. http://www.kahlon.com/itemdetailpg.asp?itemid=1491073

My question is can i switch this out for the one i have? They are both SATA but the speeds are different. Also do you think i'm able to run Windows 7 on this computer? I plan to upgrade the memory. If not i'll reload it with Windows XP.

Here's a link showing what my computer has for specs. http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/msi-wind-u123.aspx?page=2

    Thanks for any info.

    Thanks for the reply!

I decided to try and go with Ubuntu instead of Windows 7, the most i can get up in ram is just 1GB so i doubt it'll be enough to run it properly.

That Notebook is Upgradable to 2 gigs of ram, in which Windows 7 will work on it.. Not sure about Ubuntu..

Thanks, I took the bottom of my laptop off to look before and had only saw one slot for the ram. I didn't realize i could get a 2g size single stick. I decided to go with Corsair for the upgrade.

Here's a link to the Ubuntu requirements https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements

I'm picking up a fash drive along with the ram to load it up once i change out my hard drive. I had heard about using Linux years ago and this Ubuntu seems like their latest thing.
