    hello
i just bought a brand new PC and i'm not ready to let my 8 yrs old brother mess with it
so i will give him an old PC(780 ghz celeron processor, +-320 mb ram, nvidia 5200fx)
and he finds it slow for his games and he wants more ram so the question is:
if i add 512sdram or 256 will it improve the pc
    thanx:)

It will but its best to have either 2 x 512mb or 2x 256mb for dual channel and also with having the same size ram sticks and also from the same make is good.

What games he wanting to play, a 5200Fx will proberbly making all the games lag, it aint really a gaming card :p

    What games is he playing?

Your CPU will be holding the graphics card back loads. The 5200 came out when 3ghz processors were around, the 780mhz celly wont do it justice.
Id imagine a ram upgrade will help though even if you buy lots more ram you still might have issues with newer games because it wont be ddr ram.

It really does depend on what games he will be playing... at the moment its possible your cpu, ram and graphics card is giving you problems.

I think the graphics card, when allowed to work at its capacity, will be fine. With older, lower spec cards it a matter of reducing graphics quality. My old gf4 mx420 is only just about to get an upgrade!

nah he still up with the pretty old games like GTA vc-5 and warcraft III and some games from 2k4 and 2k5 ?and he says they do lag when puts some MP3 on
also that the winXP is kinda slow(damn i hate microsoft) so i thought adding some ram will help
    i already have a 256ram+ old64 ram so i asked bfr replacing the 64 with 256
will it give result or not bcoz of the slow CPU that i said maybe won't improve if i add more ram
    thanx !!! ^_^

Stick 2 x 256mb of ram in but your proberbly gonna have to upgrade a cpu.
Just because the FX5200 came out when 3ghz cpu's were around dont mean 2.0ghz cpu is gonna bottleneck it, i have had 2 of those graphics card, when i had a celeron 1.2ghz, that wasent even bottlenecking a card like that.

Windows XP will be hogging your ram a bit. The extra 64mb will certainly help but you will get the best results if you used Windows 2000.

The last time I played GTA was when I had a Voodoo 5, 192mb ram, Win 9x and a P4 2ghz and it ran great. The cpu is the difference from your system.

A GeForce 4 Ti is better than an fx5200, just that the FX5200 is DX9 and 4 ti is DX8 so its preety much useless, when i was using my FX5200, on all my computers, it lagges like crap on GTA SA even on low settings.

well personally (now)i wouldn't run XP on a system with less than a 1Ghz CPU and 512Mb RAM[ot]although i did use XP with 256Mb RAM (before i knew)[/ot]
