I have an HP Pavillion a307x Desktop computer. It's motherboard is a Xenon 3 MS-6577 v2.x. The specs for my computer can be checked out here. Motherboard Specifications, MS-6577 (Xenon 3)

It says on that website that a 3.06 GHz Pentium 4 HT processor will work on my computer but I want to double check. The processor I want to put in is an Intel Pentium 4 HT Prescott 524 3.06Ghz Skt LGA775 1mb 533Mhz 90nm Processor. It can be looked at more at this website PartsPC.com-Intel Pentium 4 HT Prescott 524 3.06Ghz Skt LGA775 1mb 533Mhz 90nm Processor:Intel Pentium 4 HT Prescott

Also, my old processor was glued onto my heat sink/fan. I removed the fan from the processor. If I buy a new processor, is there a specific type of glue I should use to glue the new processor onto the heat sink/fan.

    Welcome to HWF :)

The motherboard of the computer uses a socket 478. However, that Pentium 4 uses socket LGA775. This means that it won't fit in the socket. You can however use a Pentium 4 that uses Socket 478. This is the 2nd generation, and go up to 3 Ghz. You can find all Pentium 4 CPUs on this list. All Socket 478 types can be used on your motherboard. These are all with the codename "Northwood" and a few of "Prescott" (up to 3.06 GHz).

Alright, thanks. I was looking around and I found a processor that I like. It is here. Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz 800MHz 512KB Socket 478 CPU Intel The only problem is that this one says it needs 800 MHz Bus Support. My computer, however my computer's front side bus is only 400/533 MHz. So will this processor still work?

No that one won't work. I just figured out that all Pentium 4 CPUs that have HT technology, require 800 Mhz.

So that means that you can ONLY use a Pentium 4 that has a 400 Mhz or 533 Mhz FSB. On that website, you can choose any P4 from this list, except the last four.

Thanks for the help. You never answered my question about how to glue the heat sink/fan onto the processor. What type of glue should I use or does it not matter?

Arctic Silver 5 is the best thermal paste you can get.

It's not glue, but thermal paste. It's used to fill all microscopic holes between the heatsink and CPU.

Like Dartht33bagger already said, Artic Silver 5 is the best :)
