it should work, although mixing speeds/densities isnt the best thing to do you can do it but the faster ram will be lowered to the speed of the slower ram for stability. I dont think new compaq ram should be a problem, if its off ebay then its probably describing that it was bought and is 'as new'

cool so you have 512MB of PC2700, 512MB of PC3200 and 256MB of PC3200, you can try it and see how stable it is, and with that graphics card you should be alright.

cool, it should be alright, although it wont run at its full speed people can pout in different types of ram and have big problems, and some people put it in and it works fine...you'll just have to see.

if you end up later with pc-3200 ram, you can overclock your processor to 3200+ if you have a barton core and decent cooling. you just need some room for slight temperature increases

With different memory you should run Memtest86+ to check it. Usually you use PC3200 with a CPU with a 400mhz bus frequency. I recently bought a pair of 512mb pc3200 but I am only running it at 333 because my Sempron 2800 runs at that. I tried running it at 400 but no boot. I may get an XP3200 (400mhz) later. You can get Memtest here free: http://www.memtest.org/

you could be overdoing your memory, and have stability issues if the memory runs too fast, also if there are different speeds in there (PC2700, PC3200) as well then that can cause problems.
