I have the eMachines ET1161-07. Newegg.com - eMachines ET1161-07 Athlon X2 4050e(2.1GHz) 3GB DDR2 320GB NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE Windows Vista Home Premium - Desktop PCs I want to see if my computer fits XFX GeForce 8400 GS and will run it. Newegg.com - XFX PVT86SYANG GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards Thank you!
It will fit but your computer is underpowered and will not perform well. I would say getting that card and a good power supply of about 400 watts. Or the 370/420 watt PC Power and Cooling one will really be good. Getting a new power supply is always good seeing how they lose watts over time. Newegg.com - PC Power & Cooling Silencer PPCS420X 420W ATX12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies I would say that power supply. Also a 9500 GT video card i only an extra $10 Newegg.com - XFX PVT94GZAH2 GeForce 9400 GT 1GB 128-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards Any more questions, please ask.
If you're buying the 8400 GS for VDPAU/DxVA support, it'll be just fine. That card is quite adequate for HD video acceleration, but will suffer pain and agony if you subject it to 3D gaming. So if depending on what you expect to get from the card, you may want to look elsewhere. Also, as connor53 wrote, your PSU isn't exactly up to snuff. 110 watts is a joke in this day and age. My rig isn't even that high end for today's standards, and mine is 850 watts. But even if you replace it, it'll never exactly be a 1337 gaming rig. So if that's what you had in mind, you might want to save up instead and just build a better rig. All the best, -AT
Overkill FTW! just kidding. But yes better to be overpowered then under seeing how when its under, things will heat up and possibly fry, and also things will not perform to the best they can. As for getting a new rig, I would say get the following to have a good gaming computer 1. New power supply 2. New video card 3. Possibly a quad core cpu I would say for the video card, shoot for a 9800gtx or a GTS 250 Radeon 4830 or better. For a good computer speed boost it would run you a good $350
Yep, overkill for sure. But I got it on sale for $100, so what the hell, right? It's always better to over-spec a PSU than under-spec. The PSU and all your components will last longer that way.
Yeah I hear you, you would have been stupid to not jump on that offer! Also to the thread creator, do you have any more questions?
