    Hi
I have 3 partition. C,D,E. on C drive i have winxp pro +sp2 and on d i have another setup of winxp. now i want to put server 2003 on D:\. i was thinking to choose the upgrade option while setting up. However iam not sure whether my other operating system on c:\ will be still accisible from the start menu.

Btw did Win 2003 server come after Windows XP?.

yeah server 2003 came after XP.
Server 2003 is apparently the same as XP64.

Server 2003 was a development of server 2000, but has more advanced networking capabilities than the desktop versions of Windows.

I don't think you can do an upgrade install, but i'm not totally sure.

If you put the disk in while xp is booted does it give you the option to upgrade?

I would have thought you could upgrade, try it. Id imagine it will upgrade the instance of xp you have loaded up.

Even if you boot from the disk id expect the option of which xp to upgrade from.

It will still be accessable, but you won't be able to view any of the OS files, (anything under the Windows directory).

And yes, 2003 Server came after XP.

    It's not the same.

Why the same build number then? They are both 3790. I only found this out the other day and have wondered since how they are different.

Last time I checked Windows Server 2003 was not 64-bit.

You can upgrade Windows Xp Pro to Windows Server 2003, just insert the disk and go. All your programs/documents will be kept.
