Hi, i was scanning with AdAware SE, and it found this virus or something, i deleted it, scanned again, and it was still there, i looked at the location, and it's in the System Volume Information, does that mean its impossible to remove it unless doing a fresh install of windows?
 
A mate had this the other day.

I used ad-aware, avg and spybot but its didnt go. We did some googles, downloaded some scanner which said it would get rid of it (!) which we ran in safe mode. Then it popped up saying to delete what it found you need to buy the software (I wasnt surprised by any of this) which we didnt want to buy. Rebooted the PC and it had seemingly gone. He's not been on the phone since.

A daft answer but what can I say... It worked for us!

Just do some googles if it doesnt work. MS have a page on it too.
 
I had all this pop up crap and wierd scan software isntalled from it, i managed to get rid of all that though, but the virus, dunno what its doing, but still there, anyway thanks i will try that :)

It even went through remote desktop to my server >:(
 
The folder System Volume Information contains the data of system restore, I think. If a virus is stored in that folder, you might need to disable system restore to remove it.
 
I hope its not doing anything bad to my system, nothing visible is happening, but i just never get around to removing it :\
 
I got it on my own pc a couple of days ago and AVG got rid of it this time. It must have been in an update since I ran AVG on my mates PC.
 
i have Avast Antivirus, and i am not logged in as administrator, i am logged in as w11l
 
.... Or log into an account with administrative privileges :P

Anyway, have you got rid of the virus yet? What's the latest?
 
I havent got rid of it, i will today, been really messy in the house lately and not had much time to do anything :p

I remember when i took administrative privilages off of my dad, he dident like it, some stuff he wanted to isntall wouldent, somethings he wanted to access wouldent work too, and i would have to mess around switching users to install crap as install as administrator thing decides to work.

I think somebody hasn't read my XP Security Guide? :P

  1. Right-click the installer file
  2. Choose 'Run As'
  3. Select 'Administrator' and type in the password
  4. Bingo
