I was having some problems with some programs in windows xp and decided to install a fresh copy. I put the cd/dvd( containing any operating system) on the drive (Plextor 716A), simply won't boot , either xp or vista. I tried then to install some apps and drivers from the same drive and worked OK. Simply won't boot OS. Any help, Please Thanks in advance Just in case. My DVD Drive is set as first boot device
You could also try to make installation floppys. You can then launch the installation from the floppys and continue the installation with the cd of XP. You can find the floppy images here.
