Most times when I try accessing a folder that has media files (namely music and videos), Windows Explorer will freeze and display the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working." I'm using Vista Home Premium SP2. Try to wipe all the 3rd party codecs and reinstall Windows Media Player (as well as any other media players) on your computer. My educated guess is that Windows is trying hard to prepare a preview, but codecs and/or media players conflict with each other which results in the failure of Explorer.
