Yes i feel like a weiner for saying this but i just found something out. In any open window in windows itself ie. startup tab or my computer, pressing a letter will higlight a folder/file/hyperlink starting with the same lettter pressed. I thought that was kinda cool, mostly useless but just happened to figure that out.
I didnt get it exactly what u r trying to say..... I think u r trying to say that if you presse windows button and then if you press the keyboard letter to navigate the things inside...for eg.. Press P for programs...?
no if a window is open on the desktop, like your in program files, you can press any letter on the keyboard and the focus will be changed to the file/folder thats starts with the letter you pressed on the keyboard
theres also a few keyboard shortcuts in XP CTRL + V = Paste CTRL + C = cut or copy Windows button + R = Run Windows + E = Explorer Windows + Pause / Break = System Properties ALT + X = Exit thats all i can remember, it been a while since i used XP
ctrl-c is copy. ctrl-x = cut ctrl- f = find ctrl-d = bookmark ctrl- a = select all ctrl- p = print alt-tab = switch window thats all I know and use....
woah got a little out of hand,j/k, anyways i was justing going through stuff the other day and pressed a key and highlighted a folder, just funny that i never knew that
You can do everything with the keyboard alone. The the File, Edit, View munuis etc can be faster with the keyboard than the mouse if you can remember which letters you need to press. Alt gets you up there then T will open tools, I will then get you page info.
There's another shortcut no one mentioned. Backspace to go up a directory level. haha yes this did get a lil out of hand, but oh well. I just had to add my little tidbit in too =)
Instead of pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL, press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC In a domain, CTRL+ALT+DEL brings up the security dialog box, not the task manager. CTRL+SHIFT+ESC is the proper task manager shortcut Man I am a geek.... :chk:
Is this why ctrl-alt-del used to reboot the computer in old Windows OSs? Im sure I remember ctrl-alt-del being a last resort option.
Ctr + X is for Cut..... Alt + F4 as well.. If you are using a browser and Using Tabs then Press Ctrl + W to close the current Tab or Alt+f4 to close the whole browser... Nobody mensioned Undo and Redo... Ctrl + Z = Undo Ctrl + Y = Redo Select something and Press Delete button to delete...Press Shift to delete premanently..So it will be...Shift + Delete Ctrl + Home to reach at the top and Ctrl + End to reach at the end.. Ctro + O to Open File... I was just wondering If anybody has ever used Mouse from Keyboard Numpad? If you see you will find errow on keys 2,4,6,8...I know heaps of Keyboard shortcuts, only remeber when required and also depends on the program. Its just because Long time ago my mouse stopped working and I was skint so I had to use my keyboard for all the operations.... Thats true! For example if you have to open a picture while making Presentation on the Powerpoint from file then Press Alt + I > P > f... It looks like a magic if you are doing in front of someone...
well if were including browsers, then dont forget F11 to toggle between full screen and windowed[ot]if anyone else puts any more bl**dy keyboard shortcut here, i'll get my magazines & lists out[/ot]
