    Hello, everyone.

I have just installed a DVD re-writer on my PC (last person on the planet to have one, yes, I know!), to replace the old CD re-writer.

I can play DVD movies on the new hardware just fine - apart from there being no sound!

I would add that I still have sound - no problem, for my audio CDs. I'm using WMP 10, but have tried Nero's Media Player - no luck with sound on that either.

Any help, as always - would be apprecited.

    Many thanks,

    Dave

Did the drive come with some DVD playback software, like PowerDVD or WinDVD?
You might try that and see if you're getting sound with either of those programs.

    Hi, Big B.

No, the drive did not come with any software whatsoever - no installation instructions or drivers - just the drive on its own!

I'll check out the software you mentioned in order to try and resolve the problem.

    Many thanks,

    Dave.

dont worry there are still people like me doesnt have DVD reader~! Lol...

You mean your all the DVDs are not playing sound on it...

When you play any DVD just look at the bottom of the WMP10........Does it says error loading codec or smthing? Bcoz most of the times it is Codecs problem.~!
And about the Disc which Big B is talking about........U must have recieved a disc with your DVD writer.

    Hi, Karanislove.

Thanks - yes, it apparently was a codec problem. I have just downloaded XP Codec Pack 1.3.0, and that has fixed the problem (well, as far as WMP 10 is concerned). I still can't get audio playback in Nero's media player, but I'll live with that!

No, I did not receive any software whatsoever with the drive - which, of course, I was expecting. Still, it all worked out in the end.

    Cheers,

    Dave.

P.S. apologies if a similar note by me turns up in this forum - thought I'd sent one, but when checking, could not see it.
