possibly be the codec needed to play, or may be the file in question is corrupt.

it happens to most videos, i am thinking of removing windows media player and using power dvd or something like that to watch movies..which ones are the easiest to use and would cause the least problems?.

Make sure you've got the latest updates if you don't already.

What types of files, specifically, are giving you problems? WMP should play .avi files, for example, just fine.
