Hey, got a problem with Media Center. Media Center loads up ok, but then i go to online services and load up MTV Overdrive, but it loads ok, then i get an error: "Video Error: Files needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly. Please restart media center and/or restart the computer" I have installed Cyberlink Power DVD to see if that will sort out the problems but it dont, even music dont work now, i get the message: " A necessary component of Windows Media Center is currently not available. Please restart Windows Media Center" I dont think its a Bug with Windows Vista as people are able to run Vista perfectly.
You ran out and bought vista? :O god knows how similar vista is to xp, but i seem to remember installed codecs where listed somewhere in xp (strangely i think it might have been in device manager). good luck, i suspect you will need it.
I did not buy Vista, i am using my Trial Keys that run out sometime in July, then i will be buying Vista if i have a job and some decent speakers. I remember Media Center worked ok in Windows XP MCE
Vista doesent have too many bugs at all from what i have seen over the past week . Whats a registry scan gonna do?
Basically what your looking at is a OS where no one really knows anything about it, and most hwf members are turning to Linux... its going to be quite awhile before any 'real' vista advice can be offered, and many of the members (including myself) will not be able to offer such advice unless there are regurgitating what they have read in other threads. What does vista offer you over 2000 & XP? more hardware requirements and a whole load of little and insignificant additions and changes. Yes, this is a vista bash
Everyone aint moving to Linux, i wont be moving to linux untill i can at least install damnd applications like in Windows, i know Unix/Linux is different, but omg after all this time still gotta mess about all the time in command line to isntall an application!!. I have no reason to move to linux, i dont need to upgrade to use Vista, runs really fast, can play all my games at the same settings, it does everyhting i want it to do, so why do i really want to mvoe to linux only to have to use cadega to play most games and to use wine for programs i used to use as there are hardly any decent programs for linux. I know most people aint bothered about look, but i am one of the very few who would choose an os because of its looks and enviroment. For example, Amarok in Linux, looks awsfull tbh, sure it may be allot better than WMP in windows, but still, for what i use it for, i dont see anything better about Amarok apart from DRM, but i have never been affected by DRM. Maybe your just complaining because you rig aint good enough to run Vista or you were so unlucky with windows it caused you millions of problems? sure, mine is just on the line and to some people they wouldent even class it as an acceptable rig to run Vista, but 1gb of ram is deffenitly enough, i can run Oblivion perfectly, no problems there. I will only move to linux when more games are supported and applications can be isntalled easier and when ATi works prperly and when my X-Fi card works in Linux too. Seriously, windows really aint as bad as people who use Linux think it is. And untill you have tried Windows Vista, you cant say its bad, yea it sound horrible from articles, and i dont know why everyone is having such crap gaming in Vista, i am running perfectly fine... I admit, people maybe should wait untill SP1, it has destroyed peoples HDD, infact it wiped all 120gb of data of my 160gb hdd when i made it alocate and format some unalocated space, so there is one bug, got around it next time by installing it in fresh formated NTFS partition space and it worked, i know its locked someone out of there Windows XP os before, proberly another bug, preety unusual too, my XP os is running fine, infact i am in Windows XP now because some applications are incompatible with Vista because i am using older versions. (Yes, Vista should just be Windows XP SP3, i dont think it has enough changes to warrent a new OS and for 5 Years of development) Its preety annoying now tbh, i feel like i HAVE TO move to linux or everyone is like ahaha stupid B&^($%& he still uses Windows, i get into Linux and i get start reading pages and pages and pages just to get it set up, people seem to think when someone first starting using windows its just as hard as learning Linux, when it deffenitly is not, i remember first time i went onto a computer, was Windows 98 machine at school, was simple to do everything.
I would hope my rig would kick the living shit out of vista, with 2 x 2.2 Ghz cores, a GB of system memory and half a gig of graphics memory i would kick the shit out of vista if it didn't, but i dont want or need it.... if i wanted to play games i would buy a console, my computer works for its worth and i dont see why i would want to run anything on it from a company who patches DRM holes within days and leaves RCE exploits till the next black tuesday, or even the next one. with 90% of the worlds computers running some form of M$ windows, they should take some :swear: responsibility and get the :swear: act together, worms can have very significant and serious effects on global infrastructure stability which affects ME... and i don't even use there :swear: software, yet i have to suffer? My education is also somewhat dependant on excuse for an operating system... M$ Blaster kicked the :swear: out of my high school.... even better, the college/university i am at is on a class A network (10.x.x.x) with every other UHI institution in the whole of Scotland... just one copy of any worm getting it would devastate the whole lot, anyway, i have better things to be doing.# good luck
Since when do worldwide companys use OS's like Windows XP and Vista Ultimate on servers..., i use an antivirus, it can actually stock viruses u know, just because you think windows is so bad doesent mean it is, maybe it was bad for you, but it aint for me, do i need Linux? no, have i ever been infected with devestating viruses? no, so whats the point of running linux when it doesent do everything i want it to do.... I can see why Linux would be better for servers, but home computers, it really aint, if i want to play games i use a PC because there much ahead of consoles and i dont see anyone been able to easilly modify a console game..., oh look at PS3 can run linux, we dont want linux on it though do we, and you have 512mb of graphics memory and you dont play games!?!?!?! These so called exploits dont concern me, because i havent been affected by one and proberbly will never be.
I know you can do that... Anyway, maybe allot of people think windows is crappy, its crappy for them, doesent mean its crappy for everyone, windows is not crappy for me, sometimes i do hate it, i admit, but 91% of the time it works, so its good for me, i am gonna give sabayon Linux a shot again, thats if it dont give some stupid hard disk full error again when it really aint full.
I'm thinking it's the same problem WMP 11 for XP has since that's Vista's default player. With WMP 11 if you look at the choices available for playing it's dropped since WMP 10 and I know a few people have complained about a few sites like the BBC and MTV not having their movie playback work as it either gices an invalid or missing codec message. In this case I don't really see a workaround except to get MS to add support back for the filetypes they seem to have left out of WMP 11.
