I was fiddling round with security settings on XP Home Edition. You may know the only way to set access rights to files and folders is in Safe Mode. I wanted to stop my users being able to accee the "Windows" Folder, so i disabled access to the folder. Now NO-ONE can log on, it accept there password, says logging on, then change to logging off! I cannot log back on to change these access rights back! Is there a way to change these back without having to log on? How can i fix this problem so that i may be able to log back on again?! Any help would be much appreciated!
So now you cannot even log into safe mode with the administrator's password? Did you set an administrator password?
I did not set an Admin password, but i cant log in with it under safe mode even. It comes up with loggin in, in the window, then it changes to logging out and comes back up at the user name and password screen.
The reason I asked was because I had a simillar problem. I did not set-up a password at installation of XP and then when I tried to logon into safe mode it asked for a password. Now WTF is that all about? As I did not know of this forum then and I really did not mind re-installing, I just put on a new install and this time created a password. However, if you wish to save any data or just cannot be bothered to re-install there are ways of getting around the password bit. Unlucky for you I do not know them sorry. But I am sure I saw a thread here a few weeks ago regarding something simillar. Try visiting - www.loginrecovery.com.
