HI...installed the trial version of XP Pro and everything seems to run a lot slower now. Apparently you need to tweak XP now to get optimal performance. I play a lot of counterstrike online and i dont have the best setup as it is so im wondering if theres any advice out there on how to improve my gaming experience in XP or was it not designed with that in mind ??

    What are your system specs?

If your lacking on Ram and processor power you might want to try switching to classic view before playing. Tests have shown quite a big increase in shutting Luna off in favour of the classic interface.

XP was designed as both a business class and home OS and is the replacement on 9x/ME so the majority of games should work fine. While there are a few cases of games that won't install/work they are usually either older titles or will probably have a patch coming out to include XP support.

Since you do say you don't have the best machine I'm guessing it's a low resource problem so try turning off Luna and if that doesn't work not sure what to try.

you should have no problem as long as you have a fast CPU 750MHZ + In my opinion... with at least 256MB.

for tweaks check out Tweak XP

you def have enough ram, but could do with a faster cpu and every thing should be fine...

    I am running
    AMD Duron 750 @ 824
320 MB SDRAM Never used whole of the ram, I mostly run DW4, Adobe PS 6, browse the net, listen to mp3's all at once and every things still runs fine...

I don't think it's so much a processor problem. I've got a P3 450/256MB Crucial PC133/Asus V7700 Deluxe for a test machine and games like Max Payne and Red Faction run ok so I'm guessing it's probably the games themselves need a patch for XP.

    Please don't dig-up old threads. It's unnecessary.
