I have a Tyan S2665, i7505 MB w/1x 18gb 15k, 2x 78gb 10k SCSI HD drives, the 18gb is zero, then the 78gb one and two respectively. And the WD 120gb IDE and SG 160gb IDE are used for storage. On the inital build, I was able to get XP to see all three SCSI's (used to be 4, the two 18's for a RAID), I have the 18gb as the boot drive, then the 2x 78gb's for movie storage ripping/burnnig then the two IDE's for storage. Then had to reload XP..............:O In bios, the Tyan MB see's all three SCSI's but XP is being blind and won't see the two 78gb's. The three SCSI's are all on the same cable with a terminator on the end near the 18gb. Any ideas and help would be most welcomed. To get the one 18gb SCSI to work, I reset the CMOS jumper then it finally worked, but not the two 78's SCSI's.
right, it was about 12 - 15 years ago when i last played with SCSI, and back then the host controller (i think) was traditionally 0 (zero), i've tried updating myself on this page and the host controller is now traditionally set to 7 & the first boot device set to 0 (zero) BTW: the way i remember it, SCSI devices (obviously) be assigned a device number between 0 & 7[ot]i'm not teaching my grandmother to suck eggs - i'm trying to get it correct in my head[/ot]
donkey That's right the controller is automatically set at 7 and the SCSI's are set from zero to 6 and 8 to 15. What erks (sp) me is that they used to be seen by XP and worked, in Admin tools all I can see are the three HD, the 18gb SCSI and the two IDE's. Maybe I should sell this MB and go back to the PC-DL, at least on that MB I can O'clock the 3.06mhz to 3.5mhz.
i may be wrong here, but, are the drives visible in device manager ? because, if they all are, you may be able to just partition, format & assign drive letters to each drive, sorry if i'm wrong, i personally never had a SCSI interface / HDD, when i was working years ago, i only ever installed 1 SCSI HDD, so, i'm grasping at straws[ot]don't know what i'm talking about[/ot]
That's the problem, in device mgr they do not show up at all. (see last post, 2nd sentence) If they did, I would not be asking - it would be as you mention format and partition. XP is just blind to these two SCSI's. In the bios, I can see them there, all 3 and access them. Most of the time it's just plug, install driver, format/partition,change drive letters if needed and play.
This is what I get in device mgr. Can't upload any more pix, but in comp management it shows three HD's the 18gb SCSI and the two IDE's
