I had a few questions... I need to get Windows XP Japan version.. I was wondering something I can buy a copy from Yahoo Japan Auctions, but I wondered something. If I buy an upgrade version, will I be able to use my US previous version to install the XP Pro Japan version or do I need a Japan previous version of windows? Also what is up the with Dell OEM cds? Can I use one of those as well? I see those go for like 40 bucks close package, and the XP pro Upgrades are around 140-200 bucks. Thanks for any info
Good question on the Japan version, but I don't know. I'm not sure if MS has a dumbed-down or modified version of XP that's sold in Japan or not. If so, it might not work. I'm also not sure of the legalities or not. Those Dell OEM's should be fine, but you may have to purchase some hardware with them to make the deal legit (it can be a $1.00 adapter for all MS cares) depending on if the seller is going by all of MS requirements. Just make sure if you're buying if off eBay that it is XP, not a recovery CD with XP on it.

Are you buying the CD off Dell's website? If so, then, yeah, that should be okay. If it's a restore CD, then it may find some issue with your system and cry foul. It's eBay, and someone could be trying to screw you over or just be an idiot and not know that the Dell recovery CD is NOT a full version or upgrade of XP: it's a wipe the hard drive and reinstall the OS measure.
I just need a copy of windows xp pro japan, I have to use it to tune my ecu for my car, and the stand alone management system needs to have windows xp japan version. But it does run with Windows 98 and ME, did they make Japan version of those, if so I can just use my Windows 98 that I have. I think ill search Microsoft site tomorrow at work and see if I can find out if they made a Japan version of 98 or ME,
Either way, be cautious...but if it's cheap enough and the seller has a good rating from others, then you're probably safe. I know 98 and ME allowed for most major languages to be used, but I'm not sure if there was a modified one for Japan (outside of translations).
