Hi, my folks just called me because there's something strange going on with the PC running Windows XP Home SP2. When it starts up, it gives an error message, in Dutch, which means "could not find source.ini" or "source.ini missing". They told me that they see that most of the icons on the desktop are missing , the wallpaper is different (standard XP Wallpaper I guess) and the "history" of several applications such as Firefox, Thunderbird, etc. Looks like, somehow, a broken Profile or something? Should I be worried, and how can I get it back? I'm thinking in worst case, perhaps use a restore point?
Boot the system in Safe Mode, and log on to the same account. Do you see the same error message in Safe Mode?
Hiya, Luckily it was not so bad and could solve it; I did a Google search and followed a method someone recommended of renaming "Profile Folder" to "Profile Folder.OLD" and then letting XP create a new account, and selectively copying stuff to there. I'm happy to say, nearly everything is back to normal! Except the scanner software can't find a file anymore, now it's off looking for the CD with the driver... At least I'm relieved no data was lost... my dad was in somewhat of a slight panick... :x
