Why have microsoft made a rubbish version if windows xp and then put N on the end, why did they remove windows media player and all that, is it somthing to do with legal reasons?
 
this is a cheaper version of windows xp for people who don't want mediaplayer on their computer
 
what i have read up on it it was for people who could not afford windows xp with everything on it, and to stop piracy, so they bought that version out, you see a full version of windows xp home is anything from £85-£120.
I have no idea how much the windows one is without media-player.

yea thanks it did, you can get copys of windows xp (full version with media player) for as little as £50 from good online stores.
 
remember you get what you pay for.

In case you did not know if you are offered a windows disc at cheap micro soft have issued a warning, about low cost full xp disks.
HERE IS HOW YOU TELL a GENUINE ONE make sure all paper work is with it, ask if you can take it out the sleeve it is in, hold disk up to light and the windows moto the flag should change colour, the disk should have writting right up to the end except for about an eighth. when you look at the sticker with the key number on it you should be able to see genuine, and it should have a silver strip running through it.

ah, is there anyway to get this copy of windows xp home edition that i got with my emachines computer back in 2001 to work with my new computer, its a 2 disk copy, and on the front it says it can only be used with an emachines 140/dvd and 150/dvd, but anyway i tried it on my new computer and it installed but as windows loaded, a blue screen of death appeard, is there anyway to modify the disk so it will work, as i cant afford windows xp at the moment, and on the back of my old case i have a genuine windows xp home edition cd key.

would it be legal for me to download a copy of windows xp home, if i have a genuin cd key?
 
IS the disk an upgrade? is it just and bootup that came with your machine?
Also if you have the product key no, you can make a free phone to call microsoft customer services have your disk with you and give them all the info from it that you can the one number they will as you for is the disk id no and what colour it is, once they have that, then they will be able to tell you wether it will work on this other machine, and probably give you another product key no.

the disk is just a bootable disk that came with the machine, it says on it that it can only be used wit emachines pc's.

I had no idea XP could be so expensive, go mine free but I've seen it for like $80 before (still overpriced in some ways:()
