hi i dont think ive posted here before

im running bt3 (final), my wireless card is a linksys wusb54gc (rausb0)

the information i am getting is from a shell using commands iwconfig and ifconfig. i am also using wireless assistant 0.5.7 and kwifimanager.

the problem started when i was fiddling about trying to ad an external antenna. i got soldering, connected up and got no signal. which i did have before, but which i mite not of had because i was fiddling with commands (that i dont yet know too much about).

i have since had a successful attempt at broadening my wireless network with another wireless card to which i have a good signal.

now i have connected it back up to have another bash and searching around i found this on the backtrack website

----------------------------------------------------------

Linksys WUSB54GC

* Driver : RT73
* Chipset : Ralink Technology, Corp. 802.11b/g WiFi
* Notice 1: The interface is named rausb0, not eth0 or ath0 etc.
* Notice 2: Built-in [BackTrack] Driver does not support fragmentation attack; however, the following driver does:

http://homepages.tu-darmstadt.de/~p_larbig/wlan/rt73-k2wrlz-2.0.1.tar.bz2

Needs activation before use

bt ~ # ifconfig rausb0 up
bt ~ # iwconfig rausb0 mode monitor

Everything works out of the BT3 box

------------------------------------------------------------
which has now brought it back to life but the signal level is well ill show you.

with the commands (ifconfig iwconfig)

iwconfig

rausb0 RT73 WLAN ESSID:"" Nickname:""
Mode:Managed Frequency=2.412 GHz Bit Rate=54 Mb/s
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Link Quality=0/100 Signal level:-121 dBm Noise level:-115 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

ifconfig

rausb0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:22:6B:9F:AD:22
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:11 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:1521 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:8782 (8.5 KiB) TX bytes:152448 (148.8 KiB)

this makes me think that i havent completely knakerd the hardware up which i thought before. because it seems to be working, but the signal level is lower than the noise level.

i am also running another network adapter (ath0)

any help would be appreciated
