I have a asus a7v266-e mobo with athlon xp 1900+ processor. Machine was showing signs of being strange but nothing serious. Tonight told the tale though. When first turning it on the monitor would not wake up. I made several attempts to restart some with some success but if I ever made it into windows xp, it would act strange and when going into the system in the event logger and clicking on an error to see if it would tell me what the problem is it would say that the help has an illegal operation and would shut down. One weird error was the driver for the amd processor did not load properly. I cracked open the case and blew it out with air, replaced the power supply with an enermax 350 that I had on hand. When I powered her back up, I noticed that the fan on top of the Via kt266a chipset was not turning so I gave it a little push which started the fan working again. I reset the bios on the mobo by removing the battery and shorting out the pins. I then set the bios to 1200 mhz which the 1900+ should be at 1600mhz just to be safe. The machine tried to reboot after exiting and saving changes but would not restart. When the machine goes through post though, it beeps once although once it did 1 long and 3 short beeps which says the video card or video card memory is not good. Please help
Yeah if the fan stopped then yeah the processor is gone. It still might work thoe the computer might be preventing it from running because the chip is getting to hot. Thus that would save the chip. New computers do that when their a jump in temp to stop the chip from burning out.
