Here are the relevant specs (all brand new as of April)...
ECS PF21 Extreme mobo
samsung dvd-rw
samsung dvd-rom
maxtor 120gig master on primary ide
WD 100gig slave on primary ide
Here is the problem...
Initially I put the maxtor and dvd-rom on primary ide, formatted, freshly installed windows xp and installed sp2. after installing all other components (mobo drivers, wireless drivers etc...) I then put the other HD onto to the primary channel, and then the roms on secondary.
Not only will by bios not see the roms, but neither will windows. However, when I boot up, there are 4 SATA devices displayed. The first 2 are my dvd-roms, and the next 2 say not found.
So obviously the mobo sees the drives, but that seems to be about it. If I insert a boot disc into either drive (I have cd-rom set at first boot device in bios) it will not see the disc and boot into windows.
There doesn't appear to be any related jumpers on the board, however I don't know this for sure.
What I have tried so far...
I have disabled any and all RAID options (as far as I know)
I put one drive and one rom on each channel
different IDE cables
swapped channels
