I have a seemingly unique problem with my RAM. I have 2 sticks of Corsair XMS, both 1 gig. My Windows XP Pro install only detected 1 gig for a long time. I was really busy when I built the PC, so i had to put off the problem for a while (Hey, it ran, right?) and soon I completely forgot about it. Well, I finally got around to diving into it today. I know both sticks are good. I know all 4 DIMM slots work. Bios detects 2 gigs, so does CPU-Z. However, Windows detects 1 gig. I rearranged the sticks in several ways, and now Windows sees 1.5, while both BIOS and CPU-Z still see 2. I would much like to have that last .5 gigs of Ram. I know the limitations of 32 bit operating systems, but I'm nowhere near the ~3 gig limit. Anyone have any idea WTF my windows is doing with that last .5 gigs?
What does it say under Video adapter in bio's ? Allot of times windows will take ram for the Video card, Thats for onboard video cards.. I have a PC with 1 gig of ram, but in windows it only say 768 mb, But if you go into the Bios. You can see the whole 1 gig,But also should see 256 allocated to Video adapter..
My video cards not onboard. Actually, I cant even find the Video adaptor in my BIOS, but its got 1 gig of Ram on it. Ran Memtest 86, no problems, but windows still only sees 1.5 gigs of RAM. While this is an improvement over the 1 gig it originally saw... I want my 2 gigs for crying out loud!
Sorry for the delay, work sucks. Heres my DXdiag. It says 1536 MB. I *know* it has 2 gigs, and Bios knows it has 2 gigs. CPU-Z knows it has 2 gigs. But Windows refuses to acknowladge it. It used to only show one, but I rearragned the sticks around. Out of 12 possible configurations, the highest it will show is 1.5 gigs. I know both sticks are good, and all 4 DIMM slots are good (Because when I put them in alone, no matter what DIMM slot, windows detects 1 gig)
