i know you can disable them in the registry, but i dont know which registy key it is, will try searching for you, back soon

first i recommend you backup your registy

to disable balloon tips, either Start->Run type

regedit

then navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

• on the Edit menu, press New and DWORD value
• Type a Value Name of EnableBalloonTips
• Dbl-click EnableBalloonTips and type 0

or if your not comfortable messing in regedit

just Start->Run then type

REG ADD “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced” /V EnableBalloonTips /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0

Balloon tips should now be gone

thank you for that, balloons gone but my problem is deeper. i bought a used computer and the balloon in question is from microsoft saying my xp version is not a licensed one but saying it might be a counterfeit, it works fine and i can't afford to get a genuine copy yet, can i get shut of these balloons?
