Hi Guys It is possible for a device in a network to be working(for eg producing images and storing at a certain ip address) if it cannot be pinged (i.e request timed out displayed when pinged)?? But other ip addresses on the device can be pinged and accessed?? Thanks Ria
Yes, Does the machine have a firewall? It's not uncommon for a firewall to block incoming pings (ICMP echo requests).
Hi Yeah, I'v disabled the firewall on my pc and allowed it to send and receive ping requests. The device in question is a piece of hardware and I don't think that it has a firewall or anything like that.
its custom made. It contains a motherboard, linux kernel, power supply and pci video decoder. It receives input from a camera and supposed to output jpeg images at a specified ip address. The ip address in question however cannot be pinged. So I dont know if it is working. Tried running an ip scanner and picks up the ip address as being dead. ????
