well basically, Ubuntu took too long to boot and Mandriva went down in a blaze of glory, don't know exactly what happened, but presume it wasn't good, no error codes just a blank screen after POST

EDIT: and before you say it yes i did install LILO

EDIT: is XandrOS such a :swear: twat to install for everybody, i've tried a different drive, a different CD-RW, but still having problems installing, tried doing custom install & deselecting skype but then it stops at 82% saying somthing to do with xmms, now i've got failed setup.log's & parted.log's coming out of my ears

EDIT: just waiting till i can get some TDK or VERBATIM media, unless someone knows of any better media

Ubuntu took too long to load? What specification of computer are you using? You might prefer Kubuntu in that case.

Don't have an answer for Mandriva, but i'm sure Anti-Trend will know what to do.

Don't have an answer for XandrOS either. Never used it and know very little about it. I doubt anyone on this forum has much experience with it.

Your problems with these distros is probably due to media. Try then again some time.

just had to reactivete XP again, but nothing had changed, just booted Win98 to get the registration code for avast AV, tryed to reboot XP and that :swear:ing WPA came up, i'm going to send a very polite email to MS cos they've just lost a user

realized what the problem is, after booting into 98 i just set the XP partition active and forgot to hide the 98 partition, but didn't think this was a problem at the time cos XP can see hidden partitions (not explorer but disk managment) obviously i was wrong, cos the change was another visible partition (98) anyway, i don't mind admiting when i'm wrong, guess this is one of those times

WPA is at it again, created a new partition on primery master with disk management (XP) and restarted (as required) then :swear:ing WPA popped up saying i had to reactivate XP, i only created the partition so i had enough free space to download FC5 (think MS might have known this lol) anyway now downloading with FC3, let you know how it goes :)swear:ing WPA)

just been to MS site, can't even find an email address to complain about WPA (presumeably cos i'm using FD3 while FD5 downloads) think i'll boot 9x and find an email address to vent my frustrations, i'm offering 2 to 1 odds, that i won't be able to find an email address, any takers ?

EDIT: if there are any takers, MS have to stop using WPA for me to payout
