I am trying to install xp pro on a new motherboard/ hardrive. (ABIT NF7-S, 200GB SATA drive) Setup works fine, and can format the drive etc, but after this point when it is installing the main system files, it stops randomly and claims that a file (e.g. "D3D9.dll" or "Kodak_dc.icm") was not copied properly. Its a different file each time. When i hit enter (= retry) sometimes it will carry on, but then it will do the same thing again, and sooner or later the retry doesnt work. Setup claims the problem may be with the disk, but the disk is FINE! Its worked fine before, and i've even tried with a different xp pro installation disk and same thing happens. If i choose, "skip this file", then windows doesnt set up properly. What is it? the bios??
I've had this problem so many times I had no idea what it was. I would actually first check that your RAM is ok, if you have 2 sticks, try only one of them at a time. This fixed all my stability problems and by guessing by the different files each time its likely to be it.
Well im at this moment getting some new and compatible RAM, as the stuff i have isnt being properly recognised by the board, so hopefully this should solve things... cheers
