    Hi all,

I'm in the process of building my own gaming systemas my current one is a family system and I want my own.

The spec will probably be as seen in my Siggy, but I am confused over the PSU.

I am interested in this Hiper PSU:

    Hiper 425w PSU

    First off, are Hiper ok?

Secondly, I see this PSU has dual 12V rails. With 12V rails now needing to be a minimum of about 18a for high-end PCI-E cards, will these two somehow combine or something to give 31a? One rail has 16a, the other 15a. Would they do that? Or are they separate?

    Thanks,

    Karl

I don't know about this company.
Personally I stick with Antec or Enermax.

In any case, if we only look at the specs and do not take into account the reliability of that brand, the psu you suggested would be ok.

So would the two 12V rails twin up to make 31amps?

    No.
They're dedicated rails. Which means some parts will be powered by one rail, while other parts will be powered by the other rail.

    Ok, thanks.

Is it not a good idea then for a gaming rig? Because of the low ampage?

    The amperage is fine.

I believe the video card draws its power from one rail, and the cpu from the other, ensuring better stability.

It's just not a good idea for any computer to use low rails or off name brand power supplies. There is a sticky explaining everything on importance of powre supply quality in general hardware I believe

the rails are fine nf because they're split into two.

As for the brand, well that's another story.
