hey. i just ordered a nice AMD athlon 64 3000+ venice, and i plan to overclock it, to about 2.8-3.0 ghz (which is easy) can anyone reccomend a good cooling device (thats not very expensive) for it? Exfoliate, i tried to get the arctic freezer 64, but my dads supliers said it wasnt available to them coudl someone else suggest something, please?? btw exfoliate, congrats on winning! i guess all thos "thanks" buttons i pushed for you really payed off, eh? lol
is this any good? "Thermaltake VENUS 12 80mm Ball Cooling Fan/Heatsink - " i heard it sounds like a leaf blower at full speed, but its adjustable and i usually wear headphones anyway
thermaltake venus 12 is good i had one, noise might be a bit noticeable, also check the arctic cooling freezers, they are well known for great cooling also the zalman line of cpu coolers for 939 are well known, add in some AS5 and its a baeutiful match
cool. the noise hsouldnt be a problem for me. the fan speed is adjustable, and i usually wear stereo headphones when im playin, anyway. like i said in the first post, the supliers didnt have the arctic cooling freezer available i guess ill stick with this. what exactly is as5??
arctic silver 5 its a sort of thermal paste that is 99.9% silver, and lowers temps pretty good when used with a good heatsink and fan, its mostly recommended for people who are using ice rigs but dont want overheating, it should cost around 7 dollars, everyone sells it
You spread an extremely thin amount on the CPU that touches the heatsink. Take note, extremely thin; you want the AS5 to fill small cracks, gaps, and imperfections on the heatsink so more heat can be conducted to the heatsink
well, i have a gig of this ordered. " OCZ Gold Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory" im assuming thats good? i heard it was. this as5 sounds like a good deal
Thanks Sniperfox, I'm glad you started your thread OCz Gold is some of the best overclocking ram around. Great choice:good:, the Thermaltake VENUS 12 is a very good cooler, you should have no regrets.
eek, you won't get very far with pc-3200 ram at all, maybe from 1.8-2.0ghz. Overclocking ram is one of the worst things to overclock, often causes errors and crash your system.
It's alright, but you won't be overclocking far at all with it. how much are you looking at for spending for ram?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220140 Good ram, you'd be able to take your processor to 2.7ghz running that ram at it's default speed. That's if your processor can do 2.7ghz, heat isn't the only thing you need to worry about.
and dont worry, my cpu's good. (athlon 64 3000+ venice.. im pretty sure you were helping me with it less then 24 hours ago )
