The great scales again as with the MMR vaccine in the UK and the link to Autism. Do the risks outweigh the benefits?

My Children had the MMR and both are absolutely fine, Would I have acted differently at the time have I had all the information? Who knows.

The questions people need to ask themselves are - are they at risk? Do they have underlying issues which may threat their lives in case they contract the virus? What options are opened for them if they decide to take post contraction treatments rather than preventative ones?

I have a flu vaccine each year but I am not so sure I want to take this one.... I very much in two minds about it...

... Um, maybe i have been out of the loop, but i haven't heard anything from any outlets about major outbreaks. I thought they had this more or less under control?? (as far as case outbreaks go)

Under control? I am not sure that it is possible with airborne viruses. Due to free movement around the world, I think that this horse has already bolted.... :(

But I think that a sense of proportion is required. Swine flue is a strain of influenza. There are others and they kill thousands of people around the world, every year.

Did you watch the clip? The scare they're talking about was used as an excuse to test what seem to be experimental drugs on US citizens, not a real pandemic at all.

You're right... man, I completely missed the point. Then again I did not watch the whole thing.... pffff, what a plank!

I wonder if to buy into Swansen's theory though.... I cannot see that sort of propaganda in the UK. Apart from the promise that there will be enough vaccine for the "needy".

Wow... no i didn't watch the film previously ether. How is this stuff even possible, i mean, do we really just forget everything from the previous day in American?? Yes though, more the same this time around, the pharmaceutical companies made a large amount of money from all of the untested swine flu shots from the current scare

What's the saying..."Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
The swine flu isn't that bad. Yes, people die from it, but you should probably be more frightened of being in a car and getting in a fatal crash.

If I was going to be afraid of something related to swine flu, it would be one of the following:

    1. The vaccine.
    2. Whatever is going on in the world the media feels is less important than a flu scare.
Call me paranoid, but it seems like if the mainstream media today says something today, the opposite is pretty likely to be true.

[ot]Most definitely, i've never thought to word it so simply, but its probably true. Of the lies, most of the time they are simply the exact opposite of the truth.[/ot]

I know here in the US we had two weeks of swine flu "news" on every TV channel, newspaper and radio station - that is until Miss California decided to take her top off. After that, ALL the swine flu reporting virtually stopped and everyone was reporting about Miss California's topless photos. I haven't heard about swine flu since.

Tamiflu 'should not be given to children'

This story took a personal turn for my family today. My son came back from summer camp and started a fever today. Thankfully no other symptoms. However, we took him to the doctors suspecting that he had tonsillitis. It turns out he is likely to have a flu. Which is hard to tell, obviously. In any case, the Swine Flu site did suggest a course of Tamiflu. We have the tablets but on the doctors suggestion ("I would not give Tamiflu to my children!") we are unlikely to use them. On the other hand, a doctor who is a family friend and in no way connected to the manufacturers of Tamiflu, suggested that Tamiflu is recommended if symptoms deteriorate. So there, two doctors, two opinions....

But we are worried (what :swear: parent would not?).... luckily the lad is normally healthy and strong... should weather this one.... :(

At least we are managing his fever at the moment....
