Setting up Wireless Internet; Wireless-N

I have cable internet, and plan to set-up a wireless internet network get an internet connection on my 2nd computer in another room.

I've red a couple articles, but I still have a few questions.

Once I purchase a router, will I need a wieless adapter for the main computer, or can i just connect the enthernet to the router? Will connecting to a router other than straight from a modem affect my internet speed?

Does anyone have the new Wireless-N Routers, are they any good?

Are Wireless-N Routers compatible with Wireless-G adapters?

Who makes the best wireless products (Linksys, SMC, Netgear, D-Link)?

Can they work on Vista?

Stay away from wireless-n products, i don't believe the standard has been agreed yet!

Generally Routers that also have wifi are all-in-one networking boxes (they connect to the internet and provide wired and wireless access).

I have never had any problems with Linksys! (i have come across a few others at friends houses etc, but i cant say much about them... if you want to be sure it works with vista, your much better off going with wired (its also faster and more reliable).

do you have cable or (A)DSL broadband?
 
I don't want to go with wired for my 2nd computer, because the 2nd computer is pretty far, and i don't want wires running through the place; but for the main computer, do you need a wireless adapter for it or can you have it wired with the router for internet access
 
If your happy to have a wire running from your 1st computer to the router, go with wires!

for your second computer, yes, wireless can be very useful... just remember to have some form of security (WEP is in no way amazing, but it will keep 95% of the population from using your bandwidth!)
