yeah, i have no idea, i think its made by Google, but seriously its made from the ground up, not based on anything, so my question is... where does this fit. FAQ | Haiku Operating System google_video_Haiku_vid
yeah, i will say that its ugly, but i think that google is behind it, i'm just wondering why they choose such a lame project
Twice ive managed to delete all my text here! Third time lucky! Ive had a look too see how google fits in. I only had a quick look but did find that it was accepted into "Googles Summer of Code". Wiki says that this is an annual cash prize awarded to students who have developed freeware or open source software. I cant wait to have a better look at Haiku. cheers! They certainly have an opinion of Linux..... "Linux-based distributions are a collection of numerous software that do not necessarily follow the same development guidelines and/or goals. This lack of overall vision often results in increased complexity, insufficient integration, and sometimes inefficient solutions, making the use of your computer more complicated than it should actually be."
yeah i know it, i saw that to. lol, well maybe they'd have better grounds if what they were making didn't look like windows 98
You see, we have a problem when you starting judging the quality of an operating system by the GUI.... What's under the hood? How's memory management, performance, hardware support, scalability?
ok i realize those are the important things, and i am sure it has great performance stability ect, but there needs to be a balance, thats all i'm saying.
Performance is important... but you wouldn't run an O/S if it looked like this... EDIT: Apologies for the previous pic, my friend didn't agree with what Matt555 was saying... I just didn't realise I'd put it on the pic  Sorry
I dont care much how it looks like but the main thing i would luk for is how fast my programs are running and my work is getting done... Looks comes at second place.
I agree! This is cool -- a new product aiming to be different from both Windows AND Linux? Awesome! I'd like to see what new antics Steve Ballmer performs on stage in response to this...
No, last night I was showing a friend the I hate operating systems thread, and said to me on MSN "that MATT555 is a W*****", because he didn't agree with what you were saying. Then, accidentally I was doing a screenshot and it caught that on without me realising, so I took it off this morning and apologised.
Ahh okay, well tell your friend that if he likes saying things like that just because he doesn't agree with what someone said it's highly likely that he'll go through life having problems with everyone... People are allowed to disagree with other people, without contradiction (or a counter-statement) eventually leading to compromise we'd get no-where in this world. And about the me loving Linux for its ease of use? I bet there's a few other people on here who'd back me up on that
Heres what it all boils down to methinks. If your hardware is supported, the Linux is great. If not, it can be a bit of a pain to install drivers if you haven't done it before. No one really cares that much as long as your hardware is supported. The majority of mine is fine. Let me say that my SB Audigy 2 ZS was detected and the correct driver was loaded at startup without any interaction. (I did have to disable onboard sound, but thats OS independent). If you've had a hard time with Linux and your hardware, you can either stick with Windows or you can learn more about Linux and find the solution. It's completely your choice, and I don't care if you stick with Windows. Linux isn't perfect, but the very things that some people see as usability problems in some cases I see as an advantage of using Linux.
HAHA, i haven't even thought about that, good point. yeah, i'm going to mess around with it to when it comes out. After looking around a bit more, it seems likes its going to be pretty nice.
