just thought i'd try deleting stuff from Swiftweasel's download manager while it was downloading & my download of debian when into overdrive, i've added a couple of screenshot so you believe me, i haven't tried it with FF yet,

my download rate is usually about 60K/s and i have a 512 service
but look at these download rates

could someone else try this to make sure it isn't a fluke

Edit: and my router's download light was nearly on permanently, or is it just me ?

If your connection speed is 60 Kbits/s, then it is 480 KBytes/s. So it is the actual connection speed. I've calculated it on this way: 60 Kbits is 60.000 bits. 1 byte = 8 bits. So 60.000 x 8= 480.000 bytes = 480 KB. Kb means Kilobits (1000 bits). And KB means Kilobytes (1000 bytes). Most download managers show KB/s instead of Kb/s.

no my connection is usually 60KB not 60Kb (look at the screenshots)

so, 1KB = 1024 Bytes, not 1000

your right about 8 bits = 1 byte, but, 1 Byte = 1024 bits

Both the screenshots show a transfer rate of 400-460 KB/s. But it could be possible that the file is hosted on a fast server or your ISP has increased the connection speed.

No, 1 byte = 8 bits. 1024 bits = 1Kbit. (=128 bytes, because 1024 divided by 8 = 128).

RH you misunderstood this thread, i'll explain, stuff usually downloads @ about 60KB/s, however, i noticed the download speed go up to over 400KB/s if i deleted previously completed downloads while currently downloading debi

Does this happen all the time, or just this time? If it suddenly happens all the time, then I think the ISP has increased the connection speed of your subscription. Otherwise, I don't know.

well if it is a bug then i want more bugs like that, my connection was actually over 6 times faster, do you know anywhere i can report it, because, if you could have the browser permanently deleting virtual downloads, to increase the download rate on linux

BTW it also works with Firefox2, very :confused:

Does this increase occur for the entire remainder of the download? I often see a very high download rate at various times during downloads (more so immediately following a resume or the start of one). But this increase always slowly dies down, whether on FF, SF, or Opera. As an example, my normal download speed is about 300 KB/s, and it will sometimes show as as much as 1000 KB/s and then slowly die down to the normal download speed. I never have thought anything of it.

no, it slowly drops in speed back to about 60KB/s

i'm using Swiftweasel & it also does it in FF & SF , will try other browsers

BTW: it doesn't seem to have any impact on Swiftdove

i'll throw them in and see what happens, although, the download history will need filling, to be able to delete stuff

Edit: it seems to only work on Gecko based browsers

i think it would be better if someone else does more research on this, as i don't feel that i am able to up to doing it because i'm brain damaged & sometimes i don't understand stuff like Linux, yes i've being using it for about 2 years, but i have a lot of bookmarks to help me
