Rendering Issue...I think.

My friend had this video card lying around, he got it for cheap and figured out he didn't have a PCIe port. It is a Radion X600Pro. I put the card in, installed the drivers from the ATI site. Everything looks fine except for when my screen saver goes up and I take it off theres rectangles on my screen for a while, like a checker board, it also does it when im asked for User Access Control. And worse of all when I try to run a game it either crashes at the menu, or crashes short after I start the game. The short time that I have the game running has all the models to be stringy or something, also there is often those checkered rectangles in the menus.

If anyone knows what the problem is, please help. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and everything like that. I am running windows vista and again the card is a Radion X600Pro and its in a PCIe slot.
 
can you be absolutely positively sure, that it hasn't been used before? if so, the card's borken.

Of course, you could also try the card in another computer. just curious to see what happens.

Im not sure but I will ask for sure. And how does it not being used confirm that it is broken?

Also I do not have another PC with a PCIe port but I will ask around, I do wanna see if it does do the same thing or not.
 
The fact that it has been used might confirm its bad.

scenario: if it has been used and your friend got it for cheap, then it smells like a bad guy getting rid of his old broken card by selling it to someone with not much knowledge of PCs (your friend didn't even check to see if he has a PCIe slot) - no offence.

anyways, you go and check that card on another PC, maybe the card's good. if so, we can continue to analyze the situation. btw, what card were you using up until the X600Pro?

Makes perfect sence, I will ask him exactly where he got it from. Also he has a pretty good knowledge of PCs but I do agree that it was sort of stupid buying a card without checking what sort of slot you have.

I took the card out for now since im figuring that it doesnt work but I have an onboard card that was on my computer when I got it. Its a nvidia 6150 LE. I have been meaning to update my computer on my profile but I havent figured out how to do it, the first time I did it was so long ago.
