DailyTech - One Million PlayStation 3 Users Folding@home Yep, the folding count for PS3 users hits i million, thats pretty sweet.
Last time i checked the throughput of F@H was twice that of the worlds biggest supercomputer (due to all the PS3's). F@H is currently sitting at 915 Tera FLOPS (they did go over one Peta FLOP when the PS3 client was first released)... 632 Tera Flops of power comes from the PS3 alone. unfortunately i don't we will ever see a XBOX360 client as i doubt think it could handle running at 100% for long periods of time (the xbox's seem to last longer if you can keep them cool/cold, so i think they have some overheating issue's)
My/my brothers 360 has been fine, it's new though. I've been nursing it since we got it, tucking it into bed and taking it's temperature in the hope that I don't have to deal with MS....
Best way to keep it cool is to stand it up, unfortunately i have also heard that it is more likely to damage DVDs/CDs when it standing up :/ Seems like a lose/lose situation, combined with the death of HD-DVD & the fact you can only use it as a games console (even if you don't like Linux, you can't deny that being able to use a PS3 as a _real_ computer is an advantage). Of course the Wii kicks the :swear: out of both of them! lol
HEY HEY HEY, i think if there were an actual fight, like, they actually fought, the PS3 and the 360 would be pretty even, but then the Wii would like cheat, and do one of two things. A. have odd looking, but cute creature walk up the fight, AND THEN EXPLODE EVERYTHING or B. It would come to the fight in a giant mech, and obviously would win.
Wii > PS3 > XBOX360 Interesting how 3 and £ are the same key on a British keyboard, PS£ does seem to be a suitable name for it I wonder what Nintendo will do next? they always seem to manage something crazy.
Let's price up a PS3 against a 360 that'll want similar features: PS3 System PS3 40GB: £299 XBOX System XBOX Premium: £249 XBOX Wireless Adapter: £59.99 XBOX HD Drive: £99 Total: £407.99 PS3 looks cheap eh? It comes with a high-def drive and wireless as standard. Even if you drop the high-def drive off the 360 it's still more expensive, wireless should be standard these days on a console that boasts media functions for your living room!
Good point and well made! So the PS3 is cheaper, does more (wireless etc) and doesn't destroy yours Cd's (or itself, even when running F@H 24/7) AND you can install a real OS on it (anything that works on PPC), even the HDD looks user upgradeable (2.5" SATA HDD).
of course... You don't pay anything for online play with the PS3 do you? since you have to pay every (month, 3months, year or whatever) for Xbox live you could argue that the cost of an xbox is infinite
I don't think the games are all that expensive: I paid £19.99 for Warhawk, and what an awesome game it is! Another £3.49 (or something) for Pixel Junk monsters, which is silly, addictive and entertaining! I've spent a bit on the PSN Store, but it's worth it, and I've been highly amused by the games and interactive experiences I've checked out!!
DUDE MATT, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, yeah, maybe older games and what not, but a new game can cost up to $70.00 thats crazy, i mean generally they are closer to sixty, but thats still a crap ton. Yeah, i'm crazy, but i like special edition games, and there is no friggin way people are going to pay seventy dollars for that stuff. ridiculous, i mean people do, but you know what i mean.
I was talking about the online downloadable games not being all that expensive. I find £40 - £50 for a new game expensive. I'll pay it for a good game though.
Yeah, but i think the Roch was generally talking about retail console games (PS3), but yeah, i get what your saying.
