Well I guess this is to do with Vista... I recently bought a new Hp laptop. However when I turn the laptop on it loads up and then goes to a screen which says "Other User" when I click on that and it asks for an user name and password - But I never made an account, so I don't know the user name or password - Meaning I can't sign into the computer. I've tried various obvious user names and passwords - "Administrator" "User" "Guest" etc. but none of them worked. Also there's a button in the bottom left what when you hover over it, it says "Ease of access" but when you click on it, it does nothing. I read through one of the booklets I got with the computer and it said I was meant to go through a page-by-page Windows Vista installation, what never came up, it just went straight to the log in bit. I hope all of that makes sense. Does anyone know how I would be able to fix this problem? Thanks.
First of all, Where did you buy it at ? If you didn't put in a username and password, then someone else did, take it back to where you bought it from and show them what is going on... It might be a refurbished one, instead of new..
Agreed. It sounds like it had been returned to the store or something, but the employees never restored the unit. Is this the first time powering it on? If so, this should not be happening. If the place of purchase is not too far away and inconvenient for you, you really should go get an exchange, because I highly suspect this is not a brand new laptop, and may contain another customer's data. Secondly, if it is brand new and you dont want to return it/ just want to get it working, try the following: WARNING: THE FOLLOWING STEPS WILL REMOVE ANY PERSONAL DATA AND RESTORE YOUR COMPUTER TO FACTORY DEFAULTS If you have no personally important data on the system, try pressing F11 on the keyboard when the computer very first powers on (displaying the HP logo). You can continue pressing this until it indicates it is booting to an HP recovery partition. After a short while of loading up files, it should display a screen where you have an option to do a full factory recovery. It will warn you that you will lose data, etc. If you accept this, the computer will automatically erase all data on the system and restore all the factory default data (IE: How it should appear out of the box). When all is finished and it reboots, it will ask you all the stuff the booklet suggested it should be asking you. (Terms agreement, username/ password creation, etc).
Do not play around with a new PC. It will definitely void your warranty. If it is new the shop would have set-it up for you or you will have to set it up on first start. Personally I would take it straight back to the shop or call them to find out what the hell is going on....
