ARGH! How do I disable this annoying WinXP popup??

I attached a screenshot of it below (the first one). Whenever I double click some kind of installation file that I downloaded from the internet, I get that stupid #*!%(&*!(%* -ing popup! :( This is an issue now with both my laptop and my PC, and it seems to be kind of a recent thing. I've been using WinXP for a while now, and I only remember dealing with this recently, for like a month, perhaps? Oddly, like I said, it's started doing this on both my laptop and on my desktop. Was it introduced with one of the updates in Windows Update??

I do have the WinXP firewall disabled, as can be seen in the second screenshot I posted. But that window has the same icon, which makes me think it's somehow connected to the Win firewall....

So, how do I turn it off so it never comes up again?? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Control Panel > Internet options. In the tab Advanced, scoll down to to the part Security. Now check the option Allow software to run or install, even if the signature is invalid.
When you download a program with IE, it adds a tag to the file that makes Windows to show this message. After you changed that setting, it shouldn't add that tag anymore.

I was so excited... I don't understand, I never had this happen before, in all my 3+ years of using XP now; where the *@%!* did it come from?!

By the way, I didn't even use IE to download. I use FF, without exception. And I downloaded installation files using FF. And still this thing appears! WTF!
 
Go to Start > Run and enter services.msc
Double click on security center, and click on Stop. Now open the drop-down menu, and select Disabled. Now click on OK.

Okay, but I still don't understand... why is it that I didn't have to do this before, during all my time using WinXP? (At least, I don't remember going through this issue, but I do have quite a good memory.) And it seems like other people don't get this popup, either. So what's going on?

Also, is there some other way to achieve the same results? I know the average WinXP user doesn't know how to do what you told me to do...

That's one of the features in Windows, you'll never know what happens next. Back when I still had a Windows machine, I always said "Hopefully it works today":D

But I think that a recent security patch caused this message. You'll normally only get this message when you download an executable in IE :confused:
 
omg. Seriously. This is a disaster. It's BACKKKK!!!! I dunno what happened, I thought your method solved it, but I downloaded some other stuff, and now it's happening again! :crying: I tried restarting comp to see what happens, didn't change anything. I looked in the services thing, and security center is still disabled (shown below, on the right). Look at the despicable thing (screenshot below, on the left): it has a red "shield" now. Maybe only the "yellow-shield" warnings were disabled by killing security center, but the red ones are still here???

You see guys using a MS OS is brilliant, a threat here and then makes life interesting don't you think??

if you were on Linux things wouldn't happen lol :chk:

no, because as you improve technically your googleing skills also improve, as Pimp already knows as his searching ability on net is now much better than it was

no kidding, i've been through an adventure like that with this current install, just problems that seem to come from no where.
