The problem is, I don't have the installation CD any more. Can somebody walk me through how I can back up the nessesary OS files onto a thimb drive and put them on the fresh HD? Yes, I added thumb drive support that works with my PQI 1GB thumb drive.:D

I haven't used Windows in years, so I can't be much help. I'm only posting to plead with you not to let Windows 98 onto the internet. MS products are insecure enough when they're fully patched, and 98 hasn't been updated since '06. There's already enough spam zombies in the word; please don't introduce another! :O

You will need a Windows 98 boot disk with cd support first or it won't work.. Windows 98 install on Dos... Plus if you want to install windows 98, Then it should be Win98 SE...
Also there are allot of add ons now days for Win98 Se... And there is some new updates..
I have a n older box with Windows 98Se installed and works just fine..

    Yeah. A true story:

One time about 8 years ago we put the 98 on dial up. I learned two things: Dial Up is too slow to do anything, and Windows 98 is terrible on the internet in a time when Windows 2000's run was coming to an end!!! I got major spyware the same day I connected. We called the internet provider because they had a promotional thing where you could call for tech advice. They told us to just delete the crazy icons on the desktop and it would all be fine. I did that, because then I knew almost nothing about computers. Next time I started up the computer, the entire desktop was nothing but crazy icons. lol. Then the desktop was replaced by a stop sign!!!!!!! After solving that, we went without internet for a few years. Then I bought this laptop with XPand have a great antivirus (NOD32). Just last week I got spyware again, but I simply cleaned it out in 20 minutes. PS. I'm now on wireless high speed. Much better than dial up. At least I'm not tethered to the internet connection.
