Hi all, Just built a xeon server tower all is well but problems with ESXI 4 and LSI (3ware) 9600se Hardware raid controller.

I first of all built my raid which is a 8 disk raid 6 with 256k stripe size and auto rebuild (hot swoppable)
I went ahead and installed ESXI 4 on a USB FLASH DRIVE, it installed fine, then installed VSphere on my desktop pc running xp, connected to the Exsi server via VSphere over the network. Then installed the latest Esxi patch along with the Esxi 4.0 3ware 9600se raid drivers, it installs fine and then asks for reeboot, after reboot I connect to the server again using VSphere and it does NOT detect my raid controller. Been messin with it all day and cannot get this OS to detect my raid controller. Has anybody used this OS before? or even had the same problem? if so please reply any help would be much apreciated.

BTW: I'm going to install windows 7 on this server tomorrow to see if there are any issues with the raid controller but I personally think the raid controller is in full working order.

Hi the OS is VMware Esxi 4. The problem has been resolved. The problem was the onboard sas raid controller was conflicting with the Pci-express x4 (1gb/s) 3ware hardware raid controller so I had two options update the bios or disable the onboard raid controller by adjusting the jumpers. So i chose to adjust the jumper settings.

BTW: here are the specs of the server:

    Motherboard: Supermicro X8DTFL-3F socket 1366
Ram: Hynix 4gb ddr3 tripple channel kit x2 (1333mhz) clocked down by memory controller to 1066mhz.
    cpu: Xeon E5520 x2
raid controller: Lsi (3ware) 9650se, 8 port hardware raid controller
    graphics: onboard
psu: 900w Coolmaster (should of been redundant i know)

    total cost: £2300

damn, i was going to mock AT & direct him to this wiki page, but i'm late again, story of my life

Edit: found that ESXi doesn't support the 95xx series 3Ware RAID cards but i was unable to find anything about ESXi & 96xx cards
