I was given a Apple 23' cinema HD display/monitor, Now My Question is ?
How do you hook this up to a PC ? It has A DVI with some USB connections and a firewire connection.. There is no power cord.. Any help would be so cool...

You can directly connect it to a PC, both the DVI connector and the USB connector. FireWire will only work if the PC has a FireWire output. As for the power cord, you'll need one. You might be able to get one at a local Apple store.

The problem is there is NO power cord, OR a place to put one on the Monitor.. Does it get its power from the USB port ?

All Apple devices require a power adapter. A screen that works on USB would be very efficient :)

This Apple 23' cinema HD does not have a spot / place for any power cord, That is what makes it so hard to figure out ..

Here's the answer to your question (it's quite complicated):
Apple's HD display doesn't require a power cable. Instead, it combines the power supply, RGB video and USB connection all into one cable, called an ADC (Apple Display Connector) cable. This is what you mistook as being the DVI cable (they look alike).

Yep, and i'm guessing that you connect the ADC from there. If the adapter is cheap, yeah i would definitely do it. On other forums some people list they've had support issues with Windows, but worst case scenario, you return the adapter and sell the monitor ;)

The Apple's ADC adapter I bought cost me $99. I am not just sure if they still carry it.

Ghostman, I wonder if there is a difference having it connected via DVI as oppose to ADC. Let me know once you have it hooked up.

Wow, this is just bizarre. I'm not sure why you'd want to buy that overpriced monitor for your PC, and have to deal with all the complications. I'm sure you can get very decent 3d/LED monitors for the PC at half the price of that, and it would work straight away out of the box and won't need to worry about compatibility issues.

I hear what you're saying but, I'm talking of LED monitors, I saw a demonstration of a LED monitor next two several LCD monitors in a computer shop, I was blown away, LED monitors seem to have a much better viewing angle and the colour is more richer, like it used to be on the oldschool CRT monitors.

I bought my 24" LCD and I wish I had invested more and bought an LED.

    Anyway merry christmas everybody

Plus LED is more energy efficient and environmental friendly. And yes, it is more expensive than of an LCD.

Actually a LED display has an LCD panel. It just uses LEDs for the backlight, which makes the units thinner and more energy efficient.
