Hey all , am Yazoon and this my first post here .
I'd to yell a big fat ' HIIIIIII ' to everyone here :) .
Yes , about the wireless router ; I have an Alactel/speedtouch s330 USB adsl modem that use my pc's usb port for both power and to send/receive signals .
I'd like to use this with a wireless router product but i cant seem to find any .
Do i have to connect the modem to the wireless router or can i use my computer as a medium between them ? Would you know any brands that let me do this ?
Thanks ,
Yazoon.

firstly hew-ow, and welcome to HWF

no basically a router has a built in modem, basically the router you want incorporates
  • modem - built in
  • router
  • wireless adaptor - possibly built in or a wireless adaptor plugged into RJ45 connector (ethernet connector) in router
  • possibly a gateway - to get free phone calls over the internet

so you would be best to not use the Speedtouch 330, and just use the router, an ethernet router is the best and easiest way to go

so you will need a network card (usually built into the mobo, not expensive anyway)
Would you know any brands that let me do this ?
there are loads
  • D-Link
  • Hayes
  • Netgear
  • Linksys
  • Prestige
  • Cisco
  • Vigor
  • Buffalo
  • Asus
  • Alcatel
to name a few manufactures, the first 4 seem to be the most popular manufactures

Hmmm ...
Nice response i've got to say , but the reason i need one between my modem and my pc is that i don't know whether my telephony company can work with any of those with built-in modems .
How much would one of those set me back ?
Thanks .

no a router replaces your ST330 (and works better) if your refering to a VoIP provider as your telephone company the you will be needing a router with a built in Gateway too

about £30 - £60 (sterling)

I beleive you misunderstood my post partially , and that error was on my behalf .
By 'telephony' company i meant communications . In my country ( qatar ) there is only one internet/phone/mobile service provider which is qtel . I received this modem after they installed it for the first time . I would like to know if i can replace with one of those routers with wireless and built in modems .
Thanks .

EDIT : Note that my modem is an s330 ( not an ST330 ; I don't know what those are. )

ST330 is Alcatel SpeedTouch 330

no just unplug the ST330 and get an ethernet router, trust me it'll work, i did have a ST330 (provided free by my ISP) but i upgraded to an ethernet router (i already had a network card built into my mobo)
